Emotional intelligence

Intelligence isn't just about how well you do in exams. Emotional intelligence is about understanding and managing yourself and relating to others.

There are two parts to emotional intelligence:
  • Understanding yourself, your goals, intentions, responses, and behaviour.
  • Understanding others, and their feelings.

Group activities

  • Make up a piece of drama to show somebody being emotionally intelligent in a difficult situation.
  • For example
    • When they are feeling under pressure with lots of work
    • How they could empathise with a friend who is distressed or finding something difficult

Individual activities

  • What could you do to improve in the areas you find difficult?
